The other day, my daughter asked me if I would make her a refreshing lunch with flowers and butterflies. Of course, this is five minutes before bedtime. Which I guess is good; at least the kids were in bed, and I had a quiet house to think of lunch box ideasflower and butterfly lunch box ideas!

You know it’s always those times you are dragging your bottom that things turn out the best.  I didn’t want to mess with fun lunches, but I told her mom would take care of it.  To my surprise, I not only came up with a new lunchbox idea, but Mattie also loved it.  And it was so easy.  I think I was putting way too much thought into it, but isn’t that always how it works?

For these lunch box ideas you’ll need the following:

  • Crunchmaster® Crackers
  • Lunch meat
  • Sliced American cheese
  • Lettuce
  • Cherries
  • Grapes
  • Cookie cutter or fondant stamp
  • Your choice of veggies
  • I also added Babybell cheese & fun-shaped bread, but Mattie didn’t eat the bread because she liked the Crunchmaster® Crackers more.

Making everything was super easy. I’m sure you can look at the images and see how I did everything, but just in case, I’ll share the fun with you.

  • Okay, to get started, I grabbed my LunchBots Bento Box because it keeps everything separated perfectly, and my daughter loves it when I let her borrow it.  She has only borrowed it one other time, but when she asks me to make her lunch now, she wants to take the bento box.

  • Since I wanted to use cherries and a grape to make a little flower, I grabbed a small round Tupperware and placed cherries around the outside with a grape in the middle to look like a flower.
  • Next, I grabbed the cookie cutter and used it to cut some cheese and lunch meat into fun butterfly and flower pieces that Mattie could put on her Crunchmaster® crackers.  I also put a few pieces of bread in the flower and butterfly shapes so Mattie could mix things up a bit.

  • I added a few veggies—lettuce, cucumbers, and carrots—because they are Mattie’s favorites.  I know right; she loves lettuce on her sandwich. Talk about a lucky mom, haha.

  • To drink, I almost always send them a bottle of water, and they’re happy campers.  Mattie loves the bottled water because she can also use it for class.

Like I mentioned earlier, Mattie came home with her fun-shaped bread pieces because she liked the crackers better.  I can’t say I blame her, but I do want to share a cute little story with you.  The only reason I found out she had the bread left was because I caught her trying to “clean up” her lunchbots.  Yes, it made me wonder what she was doing because Mattie doesn’t clean out her lunchbox.  I wish she would, but she is still too young to worry about that, so she was definitely up to something.

Mattie was standing in the trash with her LunchBots and trying to be sneaky. I quietly walked up behind her and whispered, “Mattie, what are you doing?”  I scared her; she dropped her Bento Box and was left holding a piece of bread in the shape of a flower; the other half was on the floor, along with the butterfly-shaped bread.  She didn’t even acknowledge the bread and told me she was trying to clean up her lunchbox to help me.  I told her, “Thank you,” and let her know how nice it was to do something like that.

While she was tossing, standing with her LunchBots at the trashcan, trying to be sneaky and hide what she was doing, I quietly walked up behind her and whispered, “Mattie, what are you doing?”  I scared her; she dropped her Bento Box and was left holding a piece of bread in the shape of a flower; the other half was on the floor, along with the butterfly-shaped bread.  She didn’t even acknowledge the bread and told me she was trying to clean up her lunchbox to help me.  I told Mattie, Thank you, and let her know how nice it was to do something like that.

I knew she was fibbing, but I also know she will feel sorry if I play it cool and go with it.  Plus, it’s better than accusing her of lying, I think.  Well, just as planned, she told me, “Mom, I didn’t want to hurt your feelings, but I didn’t eat the bread because I only used the crackers.”  Of course, it melted my heart, and I told her that it was okay.  I made sure she understood that it didn’t hurt my feelings and explained to her that lies always hurt people more.  So we even got to have a mommy-daughter moment, with hugs, lessons learned, love, and a memory I will hold close to my heart forever.

To make sure she knew I wasn’t upset or hurt, I told her to sit on the couch, and I’d be right there.  I grabbed a bag of Crunchmaster® Crackers, turkey, & cheese and joined her on the sofa. We enjoyed a yummy after-school snack and watched some Monster High together.  I just love it when I get special moments like this with my kids.

Mattie enjoyed her Flowers & Butterfly Lunch Box; her favorite was the Crunchmaster® Cracker sandwiches with the fun flower and butterfly-shaped cheese and lunchmeat.  And I can’t blame her because that is what I’ve been eating for lunch while the kids are at school too.  Hey, it’s a great way to enjoy something that tastes great without having to feel bad about eating it or sending your kids to school with it.
