ingredients needed to make oreo pops

Mummy & Frankenstein Oreo Cookie Pops

  • Double-stuffed Oreos. (do not use regular Oreos; they won’t work.)
  • Sucker sticks (the skinniest you can find)
  • Candy melts: white if you are making the mummies; chocolate; and green if you are making the Frankenstein’s too.
  • Candy Eyeballs (you can pick these up at a craft store)
  • Clear plastic treat bags
  • Parchment paper
  • Ziploc bags

Assembly:

Line your workstation with parchment paper. It makes everything so much easier to clean up and is an excellent surface to lay your chocolates on while you are waiting for them to set.

Twist off the tops of your Oreos. Lay the 2 halves out on the parchment. DONā€™T PICK AT THEM..LOL. All I could smell was cookie at this point. I was so tempted to start eating the cookies. One for me, one for the chocolatesā€¦ youā€™ll see. Smells yummy!

Grab your sucker sticks and place them over the cream side of the cookie, about Ā¾ of the way up. Give it a little push, and then add your cookie top. Smush the 2 sides together by placing pressure in the center of the cookie, right over the sucker stick. If you push on the sides of the cookie, it will most likely break. Do all your Oreos like this until you have the desired amount.

In a double boiler on the stove, your candy melts. Donā€™t use the microwave method for these. You are going to need to reheat your chocolate at least once throughout the process. It’s easier to have the hot water ready to go.

** Side note:. Make sure all bowls and utensils are bone dry. Chocolate and water do not mix. If you put water in it, it will seize and be useless. If you are coloring your candy melts, make sure you use candy colors. Don’t use regular food coloring. It is water-based and will ruin your chocolate. Either buy pre-colored candy melts or buy candy coloring.

When your chocolate is ready to go, start dipping. Be as quick as you can; donā€™t doddle in the chocolate, or the heat will melt the cream in the cookie and it will fall apart. A quick in and out, then tap the stick on the bowl to get the excess chocolate off. Lay the dipped cookie on your parchment paper.

After you have dipped 10 cookies, place your chocolate back on your double boiler (low heat). Put your candy eyeballs onto your cookie pops. You have a relatively long working time with candy melts, just make sure the chocolate is still wet when you place the eyes.

Keep going until all pieces are dipped and have their eyes on.

For Frankenstein’s:

After you have dipped them all, melt some milk or dark chocolate candy. Add about a Ā¼ cup to a large Ziploc baggie and cut the tip off. Make sure your cut is small. Draw on your Frankie’s hair and mouth; add a little set of stitches to his cheek if you like too. Get them all done, and then let them set up. Package them, and you’re set.

And that’s it! This is a super easy Halloween craft that the kids will love. My kids are so excited to take theirs to school to share with their friends.

For the mummies:

Simple put about Ā¼ cup of melted chocolate in a large ziploc baggie. Cut off the tip and that is what you will use to make your mummy wrap. Zig-zag back and forth over the cookie making sure you donā€™t go over the eyes. You really canā€™t go wrong with this. Just have fun with it. Once you have bundled up all of your mummies, let them sit and set. Once set, package them up and you’re ready to hand them out.
