Candy Cane Reindeer

If you’re looking for a fun Christmas craft to do with the kids or make so your child can give them out as gifts, you can’t go wrong with these candy cane reindeer.

Here’s what you’re going to need:

  • Candy Canes
  • Red smarties or M&Ms for noses
  • White jelly beans for eyes
  • Chocolate candy melts
  • A black cookie pen or cookie icing for the eyes
  • Clear bags for packing them up

Here’s what you do:

Line a couple baking sheets or your countertop with wax paper.

Get all of your candy canes peeled. If you break any, just set the aside with their pieces. You can heat up a frying pan and run the broken ends over it; it will melt the candy cane enough that you can stick it back together.

Melt your candy melt in a double boiler. Then pour them into a small mason jar. Set the mason jar either into a crock pot on low, half full of water, or a pot of water on the stove set to low. That will keep your chocolate warm while you dip. ** Don’t get ANY water in your chocolate; it will seize up! Also, do not overheat; it will separate. Keep the heat low and stir often.

Take one candy cane at a time and give it a dip about 3/4 of the way up. Shake off the excess chocolate and lay it down on your wax paper. Do the second candy cane the same and lay it right beside the first, pushing them together.

Add your eyes and nose and continue on till you have the desired amount.

Add the black dots to your eyes and wait until the candy canes are fully set.
