I don’t know about you, but I love caramel. I recently made these Gooey Honey Bunches of Oats Caramel Cereal Bars and they are the best!
They are super quick, easy, and taste great. I made them for my family that stayed at the house for the holidays, and guess what? There is none left! Lucky for me, I was the cook and knew my family and grabbed me a piece for later.
One of my all-time favorites are Honey Bunches of Oats. My mom introduced it to me years ago; it’s her favorite too. My mom used to make these super yummy cereal bars that were ooey gooey peanut buttery goodness, and I decided to copy this recipe but change things up just a tad.
Honey Bunches of Oats Caramel Cereal Bars
If you like Honey Bunches of Oats cereal, then I know you’ll love these caramel cereal bars! Caramel and Honey Bunches of Oats don’t get better, in my opinion.
Ingredients
- 6 cups Honey Bunches of Oats cereal
- ½ stick butter (1/2 cup)
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1 cup Karo syrup
- ½ cups creamy peanut butter
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- Dash of salt
Directions:
Spray pan with cooking spray. You can use a 9×13 pan or smaller. The smaller the pan, the thicker your cereal bars will be.
In a large mixing bowl, add Honey Bunches of Oats cereal and small it down a bit. I like to use my hands, but you can use anything you like.
In a medium saucepan combine butter, syrup, and brown sugar.
Over medium, high heat, bring mixture to a boil, and all reduce heat to medium and allow to boil for 2-3 minutes, stirring consistently. Turn off heat and add additional ingredients and mix together.
Pour mixture over the Honey Bunches of Oats cereal and stir together.
Pour cereal mixture into your sprayed pan and press down to pack together. Place in refrigerator until cool and first. To speed things up you can place it in the freezer.
Topping
Melt 2 cups chocolate chips and spread out over the top of cereal bars. Allow chocolate to cool and harden.
Enjoy
